Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review

The New York State education Department P-12: Office of Special Education has initiated a Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review in Collaborative Arts Middle School (29Q355) during the 2014-2015 school year. The purpose of this review is to assess the school's compliance with selected federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities.

The review will be conducted by the SEQA Regional Office and will include representatives from the school. The review process will involve a review of school records of a representative sample of students with disabilities, classroom visitations and interviews. IN addition, meetings of the committee on special education will be observed. Further information may be obtained by contacting the SEQA Regional Office and/or by contacting the school at 718-977-6181.

At the Collaborative Arts Middle School (CAMS) we are obsessed with the success of our students. Planting the seeds of a college-ready education in middle school, our students will leave the halls of CAMS better equipped to contribute to the advancement of themselves and the world. We are a school for every learner, where each student analyzes his or her own data to identify and conquer weaknesses, enhance strengths, and craft goals. Focusing on providing each student with a standards-based, technology infused, project driven educational experience, we set high expectations coupled with high levels of support. Our instructional design is rooted in tailored instruction coupled with academic intervention strategies. Knowing that middle school learners are unique in their development, we seek to teach the entire student through programs like Advisory that help middle school learners and families make the transition from elementary school to high school.
Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp

Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp is a free, two-week arts program for New York City Department of Education public school students entering grade 8 in September, 2016. This intensive program, to be held at Lincoln Center Education, Manhattan, will begin on August 1, 2016 and end on August 12, 2016. MS Arts Audition Boot Camp is administered by the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Arts and Special Projects. This will be our third year serving these talented Middle School students of New York City.

Our goal is to provide equity and access in preparation for screened DOE high school arts schools/programs for Middle School students currently enrolled in a Title I school, entering 8th grade in September, 2016, and who are interested in auditioning for these screened High School arts programs. This is an intensive ten-session, half-day program for up to 160 NYCDOE public school students, to be held at Lincoln Center.
